Dental Erosion

When your tooth enamel begins to break down it is called dental erosion. Exposure to acidic substances is the main cause. When acidic substances are present in your mouth, the enamel on your teeth softens and loses important minerals. Saliva actually balances out the pH levels in your mouth, however, not all acidity is balanced out.

Studies have found that soft drinks and fruit juices are the biggest cause in dental erosion. Research has also found that in a survey with nearly 4,000 adult participants, a whopping 79% had at least some sort of evidence of erosion in their teeth.
